Labrador training – Puppy House Training
Are you tired of always cleaning up after your puppy? Does your puppy constantly potty inside your house? You are not alone; many are faced with the same situation. In this article ‘Puppy House Training’ you will find tips to help potty train your puppy.
Puppy House Training Tips
- Frequent Potty Breaks
A puppy’s bladder is not fully developed until the puppy is about 5 -6 months in age. Understand that accidents will occur and the puppy will need frequent potty breaks. When first starting, take the puppy out every 2 hours, puppies like a consistent schedule. You will want to take the puppy out immediately after waking from a nap or drinking water.
- Limiting Water
If your dog does not have any conditions where it needs constant water, try limiting its water intake at night. After about 7pm try removing the water bowl. This will give the puppy time to empty its bladder without filling it back up.
- Praise Your Puppy
Another tip for succeeding at puppy house training is to praise for a job well done. When the puppy goes potty outside you need to make a big deal about it. Words like “Good Dog” and “Yay” go along way. And don’t forget the negative. If the puppy has an accident in the house use negative words such as “No” and “Bad Dog”. Be careful on the use of negative words. Make sure the dog hears more positive than negative praises.
- Oops They Did it Again
When your puppy has an accident you will want to clean it up as soon as possible. Be sure to use a odor neutralizer designed for dogs. You should be able to find this at any pet store. If you do not eliminated the odor the puppy will smell it and try to potty in the same area. Do not use household cleaning supplies, most contain ammonia and will actually attract the puppy.
These are some tips for puppy house training. Remember when training your puppy you will get out what you put in.
